Psychology, Art and Human Connection: An Exciting New Collaboration

I am excited to announce a new collaboration that brings together two powerful ways of understanding and supporting human wellbeing: psychology and art.

Over the coming months, I will be partnering with Brisbane-based Māori artist Deane Featonby (@featonby.art) to develop and deliver a range of workshops focused on wellbeing, resilience, connection, creativity, and personal growth.

Throughout my career as a psychologist, I have had the privilege of working with individuals, couples, families, universities, schools, corporations, and international communities. I have delivered workshops and presentations for organisations including Blizzard Entertainment, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and the British School in The Hague, as well as supporting diverse multicultural communities across Europe and Australia.

One thing I have learned over the years is that people do not always heal, connect, or grow through words alone.

Sometimes we need stories.

Sometimes we need creativity.

And sometimes we need a safe space to express emotions that are difficult to put into language.

Art has a unique ability to bring people together. It transcends age, culture, language, and background. A single image can evoke memories, emotions, hope, reflection, and conversation. It can help us express parts of ourselves that we may not yet fully understand.

This is where Deane’s work is particularly special.

His vibrant artwork combines colour, movement, culture,  in a way that invites people to see something new each time they engage with it. Rather than offering a single interpretation, his work encourages curiosity, reflection, and personal meaning-making.

Together, we are developing workshops that combine evidence-informed psychological approaches with creative and artistic experiences. Our goal is to create engaging, practical, and meaningful experiences that support both individual wellbeing and stronger communities.

Planned workshop topics include:

  • Stronger Together – Building Closer Romantic Relationships
  • Thriving Under Pressure – Stress Management and Burnout Prevention (great for executives and busy professionals)
  • Finding Your Tribe – Connection, Confidence and Belonging (for people experiencing loneliness)
  • Navigating Change with Confidence (great for newcomers to Australia or those starting a new chapter in life)
  • Memories in Colour – Creative Connections Through Art (supporting wellbeing and connection in older adults)
  • Wellbeing Through Creativity and Self-Expression

These workshops are suitable for community groups, multicultural organisations, schools,  workplaces, and corporate settings.

At a time when loneliness, stress, disconnection, and uncertainty are affecting so many people, we believe that combining psychology, creativity, culture, and community can create powerful opportunities for growth, healing, and connection.

We are currently exploring partnerships with community organisations, arts centres, educational institutions, and workplaces throughout Brisbane and beyond.

If you would like to learn more about upcoming workshops, collaboration opportunities, or community programs, please feel free to get in touch.
